What he does
Dr. Lal treats patients whose teeth, bite or previous dental work need a coordinated plan. A case typically begins with an intraoral scan, photographs and a cone beam CT. The restorations are designed in exocad, implant positions are planned against the patient’s own bone, and restorations can be milled or 3D printed in the office. Digital dentistry background
- In an exocad interview published April 5, 2022, Dr. Lal explains that his master’s thesis at Columbia concerned stereolithographic surgical guides for implant placement, and describes a workflow that combines intraoral scanning, exocad software (DentalCAD, exoplan and ChairsideCAD) and a Sirona 5-axis mill.
- He is quoted, as a board-certified prosthodontist at LAL Dental, in a 3D Systems press release of November 15, 2023 on the FDA clearance of NextDent Base.
Publications
He is first author of two 2006 papers in the Journal of Prosthodontics on stereolithographic templates for implant placement. His work has also appeared in journals including the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, Clinical Oral Implants Research and the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants.
